The Capital Times — 9/20/2008 10:16 am Wisconsin Public Power Inc. is seeking proposals for grants to help fund the construction of up to three net zero energy homes within WPPI member utility service areas through its GreenMax Home program. The Sun Prairie-based utility co-op's GreenMax program will help customers build highly efficient, environmentally friendly homes. Computer users enter their address and based on a variety of parameters, like what kind of businesses and services are close by, the site tells how walkable their neighborhood is. Downtown Madison rates 100, the top score possible. The better the score an area receives, the more walkable it is. "The more we can walk, the less we need our cars, the more we can get around on foot, we're also healthier and polluting less," said Steve Hiniker, of 1,000 Friends Of Wisconsin Land Use Group.
